Location: Gwersyllt CP School, Dodds Lane, Gwersyllt, Wrexham LL11 4NT
Subject: Playworker Apprenticeship
Hours: 17.5 hrs a week with a start time of 11.20am and finish time of 2.50pm
Contract: Part Time - Term Time
Salary: £8.60p.h

Duties include:

Working in a successful Play setting and acting as a great role-model for our young people. You will organise and run safe and enjoyable play activities. Ensuring infants have support for their physical, emotional, social and mental development.

Essential Criteria:

We want someone who:

  • Will be a great sporting role-model for our children.
  • Can organise and run safe and enjoyable play activities with children
  • Will be able to support the Lead Supervisor with session deliveries.
  • Help to create a positive and rewarding learning environment, assisting children to enjoying developing new skills.
  • Observe children’s play and extend learning in line with the Curriculum for Wales and Playwork Principles.
  • Support children’s independence, problem-solving, and resilience through open-ended and risky play.
  • Promote a welcoming, respectful, and emotionally secure environment for all children.
  • Support children with toileting and personal care needs in line with hygiene and dignity policies.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Support hygiene routines, including handwashing, cleaning, and safe snack preparation.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Strong play background.
  • Experience of working with children.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Strong communication skills.

As part of this apprenticeship, the successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme that includes:

  • On-the-job training – gaining practical experience within a school setting.
  • Off-the-job training – attending sessions covering safeguarding, behaviour management, child development, and learning strategies.
  • Regular assessments and feedback to track progress and improve skills.
  • Additional learning support, particularly in literacy, numeracy, and communication.
